INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Individual therapy, also known as counselling or talk therapy, is a one-on-one process where a client works collaboratively with a therapist in a safe, confidential space. The goal is to explore personal challenges, emotions, and experiences, and to gain insight into them.

Therapy helps clients develop effective coping strategies and work toward positive changes that enhance their mental health and overall well-being.

Therapy sessions are tailored to the client’s unique needs. They can address a wide range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, addictions, parenting challenges, eating disorders, relationships, self-esteem, self-harm-suicide ideation, anger, grief/loss, life transitions, self-esteem/worthiness, divorce and personal growth.

CHILD & ADOLESCENT THERAPY

Working with children and adolescents requires a unique, individualized approach, as they often express themselves in different ways than adults. I create a safe and supportive space where young people can feel heard, understood, and empowered to express their thoughts and emotions. Whether they're facing struggles with anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, or navigating complex life changes, my goal is to provide them with the tools and coping strategies they need to build resilience and confidence.

For younger children, I often incorporate creative therapies such as play therapy or art-based activities to help them express themselves in a way that feels natural and comfortable.

For adolescents, the focus is on building trust and fostering open communication, helping them navigate the challenges of growing up, such as peer pressure, family dynamics, and academic stress. I work collaboratively with both the young person and their family, ensuring that everyone is supported throughout the process.

My approach is rooted in empathy, patience, and respect for each child’s unique developmental needs. Together, we can help your child or adolescent develop healthier coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, and feel more confident in themselves and their ability to handle life’s challenges.

PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH

Perinatal mental health therapy supports individuals and couples during the preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum periods. This time can bring emotional challenges such as anxiety, depression, and stress. I offer a safe, compassionate space to navigate these feelings, providing strategies to support emotional well-being, cope with transitions, and address parenting concerns. Together, we focus on building resilience and ensuring you feel supported through this important chapter in your life.

Common issues addressed in perinatal mental health therapy include:

  • Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs): Conditions like postpartum depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and postpartum psychosis.

  • Stress and Emotional Overwhelm: Coping with the pressures of pregnancy and parenthood.

  • Trauma Recovery: Healing from emotional trauma related to pregnancy complications, childbirth experiences, or past losses.

  • Identity Shifts: Adjusting to changes in self-image, roles, and relationships during parenthood.

  • Parenting Concerns: Addressing worries about bonding with your baby, managing parenting expectations, and balancing practical demands.

This therapeutic approach honours the challenges and triumphs of parenthood, empowering individuals to find strength, healing, and hope as they navigate this transformative life stage.

  • Each client and situation is unique, so it’s challenging to provide a clear answer without meeting first. Generally, it’s beneficial to meet more frequently in the beginning to maintain the momentum from our first session. For some clients, this means weekly sessions, while others may prefer biweekly or monthly, depending on their schedule and financial situation. As we work together, we’ll aim to space out sessions as you continue to build and strengthen your skills and support system outside of therapy. You are always welcome to continue with maintenance or check-in sessions as needed.

  • In your first session, we’ll spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brings you to therapy. It’s an opportunity for you to share your concerns, challenges, and goals, while I’ll listen, ask questions, and help you feel comfortable in the space. We’ll also talk about the structure of therapy, what you can expect moving forward, and any questions or concerns you may have.

The first session focuses on building trust and establishing the foundation for our work together. While you might feel a little nervous or overwhelmed at first, remember that it is a normal feeling and therapy is a safe, confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.

By the end of the session, you should have a clearer sense of how we’ll work together and feel more confident about the next steps in your journey.
